We are headed into that time of year where we are not only highly focused on ending the current school year in a great place, but also on preparing for next school year. Information that is already available to parents is our board-approved Wayside Schools calendar which can be found here on our website in both English and Spanish. Below, we have broken down the bigger changes you will see.
Please note that we have included the school hours on the calendar and added 15 minutes to each school day. This year, schools were required to modify how time in school is calculated and reported to the state. The new calculation sets out a requirement in minutes whereas the previous requirement was calculated in days. In order to meet the new requirements, our district added 15 minutes to the school day. There are also new requirements related to Pre-K programming, and we have adjusted those times and noted them on the calendar as well.
Additionally, in an effort to decrease the hardships placed on families by having early release fall on two different days, one for elementary and one for middle/high school, the district has determined that all campuses will have early release on Fridays beginning next year. We have noted the early release times on our new calendar. Our hope is that families with students in multiple grade levels will now only have one day a week on which they need to plan for early release.
