Two Saturdays a month, it’s not unusual to see up to 80 scholars at the Wayside: Sci-Tech campus. The school hosts Saturday classes every other weekend, which is an opportunity to make up missed work, relearn past lessons, and prepare for the future.
Saturday class can be either assigned, or attended optionally. While some scholars are assigned, Wayside: Sci-Tech’s Assistant Principal Shauna Salustri says many choose to attend.
“Many of our scholars want to come back to classes on Saturday,” Salustri said. “It’s a great opportunity outside of school hours for them to focus on their specific needs. We want to give our scholars every opportunity to make up missed classwork and assignments.”
Some scholars who attend Saturday classes are preparing for End of Course (EOC) assessments that are taken in December. Saturday mornings give them a crucial opportunity to relearn core subjects.
Saturday classes are staffed with Principals, Assistant Principals, and both middle school and high school teachers in each of our four core content areas of math, science, language arts and social studies. In addition to Wayside: Sci-Tech teachers and staff, AmeriCorps tutors are available.
Classes are held from 9-12 every other Saturday, and advance parent notification is required.
